Pre-School News

It’s hard to believe that another academic year has finished.

The year has been relatively uninterrupted with Covid 19, apart from the week Preschool had to close as all staff caught it at the same time. I wonder how we will all be affected moving forward. It’s a very unpredictable time.

The older children are ready to move into their chosen First schools. Some of our children this year have been with us since they were 2 years old. They have enjoyed making friends, some of which may become their lifelong friends. We hear stories from members of our community who continue their

friendships which started in Preschool. It’s lovely to hear. It’s always a little sad when the children leave but we can still see them in the first school, out playing on the field. They often pop over to our fence to say hello.

This half term we have enjoyed a sponsored move-a thon event where children were sponsored to move in different ways, led by Lizzy , Dorset Creative Dance. We all had a great time.

Also, we went on a Farmer Palmer trip, had a Teddy Bears Picnic for our leavers with lots of outside games.

Our potatoes grew well this year in our growing patch. The children really enjoy seeing the end result, digging up their potatoes with amazement. It’s such a good learning experience for the children.

We now take children from aged 1 at Sturminster Marshall Preschool. We have a separate area inside for the younger ones who are non-mobile or need a quieter area. We have plenty of age appropriate toys and look forward to helping all children learn and develop.

The children have been spending more time playing and learning outside and are particularly enjoying the mud kitchen and garden. They are pleased to see that out potatoes have

broken through the soil and are growing leaves.  Children learn and remember hands on experiences such as gardening and make connections across the areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

It's that time again when we are planning for the oldest children to learn more about the first school. As part of this transition progress the children will change for a weekly PE lesson in the school hall, visit the reception class and join in with playtime with Preschool practitioners nearby.

We are also planning a sponsored move-a-thon for the children to raise funds for sports equipment, a trip to Farmer Palmers and a Teddy Bears Picnic.

If you have a child aged between 12 months and school age, please contact us to discuss our setting and your needs for childcare. We are a small, friendly setting and have both local children and children from further afield attending.

With Christmas seeming a distant memory, we welcomed back all the children, along with some new ones, in January. They have enjoyed telling their friends about all their lovely gifts and the wonderful experiences they have shared over the festive period.

Our PE sessions are now in full swing for children due to start school in September. This is such a unique but valuable experience we are able to offer to our children. They have enjoyed running, kicking and catching a ball and balancing in the first few sessions. These sessions not only aid the transition to school but also is a great way for the children to exercise in the safe environment of the school hall.

Although the weather has been a little unsettled, we have managed to get outside most days. Of course, this is aided with puddle suits and Wellington boots! It’s great for the children to spend time in our outside spaces and in the fresh air.

November has whizzed by!  We started the month, making glitter firework pictures and tissue paper bonfires.  Next we remembered all the fallen heroes on Remembrance Day.  We did a minute’s silence, coloured in poppies and made our own too.  The following week was anti-bullying week, so we started the week wearing odd socks to pre-school and shared lots of stories about being kind and celebrating difference.  Children supported children in need by wearing Pudsey clothes or something spotty and donated to the charity.  In the final week, our Christmas tree has gone up and has been decorated with some homemade crafts! There’s tinsel and glitter everywhere you look, and lots of singing practice, ready for our Christmas singing and party on the last day of term.

The colder weather has meant we’ve wrapped up warm and been out in the playground, on the trampolines, trikes, cars and scooters, lots of physical movement to keep ourselves warm.

We offer care and education for children from 12 months. We open from 8.45am to 3.15pm to coincide with school hours and enable drop off and pick up of siblings around school times.

It’s been a busy few weeks at preschool.  The summer holidays are a distant memory and we are beginning to look forward to the planning of Christmas and the end of what’s been another unusual year.

We have been enjoying the last bit of warmth from the October sun, spending long afternoons in our garden or playground area. We have even managed a few walks and trip to the local park.

The children have been learning about autumn, making artwork from leaf rubbing and having discussions about harvest time.

In the final week leading to our half term break, we have been pumpkin carving, and made a spooky wall display.

We offer care and education for children from 12 months. We open from 8.45am to 3.15pm to coincide with school hours and enable drop off and pick up of siblings around school times.

Please contact us if you have a child due to start, want to book a visit or to discuss your child’s need and to find out about the Government funding available to you.

On our last day we said our final goodbye to our school leavers. We had a walk and play at the park, fun water activities at preschool and then a teddy bears picnic.

We are all sad to be saying goodbye to those leaving us this year to start their school journey, but we wish them well in their future learning.
